You’ll Never be Skinny, and You Shouldn’t Want to Be

STRONG IS THE NEW SKINNY.
But if you barely have time to squeeze in a run, making it out to the gym for weights/strength training seems nearly impossible.
I’m going to share with you an easy, at-home, exercise that you can do anywhere and at any time – heck, you can do it right now!
THE PLANK POSE
This popular form is used to build core strength and also work on both the upper and lower body. If you’re new to this pose, don’t commit to a timed goal just yet. It’s more important to work on your form and then you can push the timer button and challenge yourself with gradual increases, working your way up to a timed goal.

Here three tips to achieving the perfect plank:

  1. Plant the hands directly slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, directly under your knees – as if you’re about to do a push-up.
  2. Squeeze the glutes to stabilize the body and make sure your toes are grounded into the floor but be careful not to lock or hyperextend your knees.
  3. Focus on a spont on the floor, a foot or so beyond where your hands are planted and neutralize your neck and spine, with your head in line with your back.
So, did you accept my challenge and drop into plank? If so, I’d love to hear about it. Comment below and tell me how this worked for you. Are you new to plank pose? Did you feel the burn?
Look out for more tips on quick exercise moves that you can do easily at home or during your lunch break in your office or at a park. Working out shouldn’t be work. It should be fun and I want to show you how!

Why I Stopped Dieting

I hope your May is off to a healthy start.

And since it’s officially May, you know what that means – we are almost half way through the year! We all probably are losing our grip with our new years resolution and slowly dipping to those treats, it’s hard not to with all of the sweet treats and sugared-packed drinks handed our way.

I need you to promise me that you will NOT be a victim this year.

Don’t panic. I’m not asking you to diet right NOW. And I’m not asking you to sacrifice your “mingling” time for an extra hour on the treadmill. What I am asking of you is very simple: Be aware.

You need to know what you’re eating and how often you’re moving each day. It’s okay to nibble on a piece of candy but be sure to take the stairs down from the office and not the elevator. Or grab that parking spot across the lot from Target, versus the closest one possible.

You see, I don’t diet. I stopped dieting decades ago. I stopped because dieting doesn’t work. It’s helps us temporarily but it never, ever ends in a permanent solution for optimum health. And that’s what I want for you. I want you to live a life where you are comfortable in your body and confident with how you look. I don’t want you to ever feel guilt for “cheating” or imprisoned to your workout routine.

The key here is to be aware. Grab your notebook or electronic notepad – whatever works for you. Use an app or your FitBit. Just always, always be aware and, the pounds will just fall off.

Give Yourself Permission to Change Your Life!

Success is the sum of small efforts – repeated day in and day out.” ~ Robert Collier

Over the last couple of days, I have been reaching for the right words to help motivate you. A magic phrase that will finally resonate and help you see that today can be the day for you – an epiphany that changes it all.

But the truth is, while I can certainly provide inspiration, your life can’t change without your permission.

We’ve talked about this before but I’m not quite sure if you’ve really put the thought into this question: WHY do you want to lose the weight?

Do you know the answer to this? If you do, please share it with me because I want to know. Comment below and tell me WHY you want to lose the weight. It’s such an important question but the answer will be your true motivator; it will be your purpose.

Once you identify your WHY, you’ll realize that losing weight isn’t difficult at all. It’s actually a simple math equation: Burn more calories than you consume. There you have it. Now, how you do that is a completely different story because that requires discipline and calculation and so much planning. It’s a commitment but, like with any challenging goal, the support of a team can be the difference between wanting and achieving.

And this is exactly why I decided to reach out to you today.

I have just FOUR MORE open spots in my Rock out your Resolutions program (the name promises what it delivers – you’ll learn how to set small, attainable goals just by changing a few bad habits and you’ll actually keep the weight off.)

If you want one of those spots, contact me and let me know so we can see if this is a fit for you.

Your choices are simple: You can either make today be your day or you don’t.

Do you want my help to lose the weight once and for all?

If you want one of those spots, contact me and grab your spot with me TODAY. If you’re not quite sure but want to hop on a call, schedule a time with the box on the lower right. Whatever you decide, know that I’m here to support you.

How Healthy Are You Really?

It seems that everyone is an expert on fitness and nutrition these days. Whether it’s a new fad diet that claims to shed pounds quickly or a series of calisthenics (so wrong!) promising to have you running marathons by week’s end.

This sounds wonderful, right? Just put in a month’s work and you’ll have your dream body for life.

Um, wrong.

That’s not how your body works. It always amazes me though on how quickly these trends catch on and how many people believe in miracle results without a committed investment.

I’m curious to see how much you really know about your health, so I’ve put together this fun little quiz.

Take a minute and humor me.

Are You Giving Up on Losing Weight?

I’ve written this post three times trying to “get it perfect.” Forget perfect, it’s impossible. The perfect message to you is impossible, just like the perfect body is impossible. You can stop worrying about GETTING the perfect body.

Truth is, you are going to have slip ups because it’s a part of being human. My slip ups are usually cheese, crackers, and red wine. They are my downfall.  Last year, I went to many wine tastings. One even started at 10:00 AM.

So let me ask you, how do you slip up?

Here’s what I mean…

LOSING WEIGHT ISN’T HARD!

Dealing with your own inner chatter IS the mess we need to clean up.

You can give yourself a break. STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP over the small slip ups.

But you can’t do it alone. Losing weight without accountability is hard. Losing weight without consistency and commitment is impossible.

Let me show you an easier way. I used to think if I could just lose the last ten pounds I would be happy, but my own inner self-worth issues held me back.

UNTIL I FIGURED IT OUT.

You can lose the weight in the next 90 days and never struggle with yo-yo dieting again.

  • No weight watchers necessary
  • No NUTRA system necessary
  • No juice cleanse necessary

That’s the hard way. Let me show you the easier way!

JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE. You can lose the weight within the next 90 days by keeping it simple.

Let me show you how you can stop the slip ups and start keeping it simple.

Reply in the comments below and let me know the #1 thing that’s slipping you up right now.

5 Simple Rules for Staying in Control of Your Fitness Goals

If you don’t want to totally undo all of the progress you just made, follow these 5 simple rules:

1.) BELIEVE IT. Know that you are stronger than the temptations and post visuals if you think that might help. Maybe photos of you at your ideal weight or magazine/online printouts of how you hope to look. Pin them on your mirrors, refrigerator, computer monitor … wherever you look frequently. A constant visual will keep you focused on the ultimate goal and that mindset will be key to helping you resist temptations.

2.) DRINK IT. Water, that is. Guzzle it down, my friend, because water will be your best friend over these next few weeks. If you stay hydrated, you’ll tend to feel less hungry. And if you do slip up a tiny bit, water forgives you. 😉

3.) MOVE IT. Sometimes, if I’m sitting at my desk for too long but I can’t seem to break from what I’m working on, I just stand up. I start to squat but I keep typing (I’m doing it now in fact.) Get your body moving however and whenever possible. Always take the stairs instead of an elevator and park on the other side of the lot on purpose; although you may actually not even have a choice at this time of year. If you know you have a party or big dinner to attend, make sure you get at least 30 minutes of exercise in first. And, if it’s early enough in the day, try to get another 30 in afterwards.

4.) EAT IT. This one is a biggie – DO NOT skip meals, especially breakfast. It’s important to reach your ideal calorie intake to keep your metabolism moving. If you’re shopping all day, bring a portioned out container of nuts with you so you can get a quick fill of protein. Or throw some fruit in your purse. I like to keep Luna bars in my car, actually. Just in case I find that the hours slip by and I haven’t had time to nourish.

5.) STRETCH IT. Start your day with a quick stretch. I like to spend 10-15 minutes but if 5 is all you’ve got, it’s better than 0. Stretch your arms, neck, leg muscles and maybe even throw in some easy yoga poses like Downward Dog or Child’s Pose. Stretching limbers you up for the day, gets your blood flowing and helps reduce stress.

So, there you have it, Janet. Quick, common tips that I share with my clients and apply myself.

Are you curious to learn more? Well, do I have a gift for you. The original Commit to be Fit series was such a huge hit that I’ve revolutionized it and brought it back for another round. MyInertia Case Studies

MyInertia Case Studies provide supporting evidence for the success of corporate wellness programs in a number of markets, such as hospital health plans, schools, corporate and small business environments.

From the Cleveland Clinic Report:

Over the past six years Cleveland Clinic have proven that a true population approach to wellness can bend the cost curve. We know many employers may not have access to the same resources as this world-renowned health system, but the principles of a successful program are clear:

  • Leverage the ACA to offer meaningful incentives and engage employees.
  • Focus on key behaviors (like physical activity) that make the biggest impact health risk.
  • Keep it simple. Wearables are fun and easy to use. Limited requirements cut down on confusion. Real time personal feedback supports on-going engagement.
  • Take a multi-year approach. Continue to learn from each passing year and adjust your program as necessary.

What’s the Hard Return on Employee Wellness Programs?

Employee wellness programs have often been viewed as a nice extra, not a strategic imperative. But the data show otherwise. The ROI on comprehensive, well-run employee wellness programs can be as high as 6 to 1.

The most successful programs have six essential pillars: engaged leadership at multiple levels; strategic alignment with the company’s identity and aspirations; a design that is broad in scope and high in relevance and quality; broad accessibility; internal and external partnerships; and effective communications.

Companies in a variety of industries have included all six pillars in their employee wellness programs and have reaped big rewards in the form of lower health care costs, greater productivity, and higher morale.

New Year, New You: Make 2017 Your Year

How’s your December going? I know that it can be difficult to stick to your health and fitness goals during the holidays and I hope that the tips that I shared with you last week have been helping.

I’d also LOVE to hear of any other tips that you might have to share. We have an eager community of people just like you that would love to hear what’s working.

With the New Year upon us, I think it’s important to talk about goal-setting. It’s easy to set a resolution. You think of what you want and where you would like to be in a certain time-frame and that’s it – that’s your goal. But is it really that simple? The challenges come in your consistency and your commitment to that goal. With that in mind, I’m going to share you with three things you can do to make sure that 2017 is YOUR YEAR. Whether your goal is related to your health, finances, or even relationships, these tips will help to keep you on track to becoming the best version of yourself that you could possibly be.

1.) Be visual. I know I’ve said this before but I can’t stress how important it is to have a clear vision of where you are today and where you want to be. Try a vision board, for step by step. I love to get together with my girlfriends, pour some wine and get creative as a group. You can make this a yearly tradition. But, if you’re not really the cut-and-paste type, there’s an app for that! I like the Hay House app that is free and easy-to-use.

2.) Set reminders. You need to treat your goal like you would an appointment. If you had a meeting scheduled with your CEO, would you cancel it because you’re tired or if your friend flew into town a day early? No, the small stuff can wait. Your goal needs to be as important as your job, your child, your spouse. Set reminders for your workouts and to make sure you are logging in your food intake. If finances are your goal, set reminders for your bills, to check your credit, to ensure the correct amount of money is being transferred to your savings account. Keep on track of your goals and break it down into smaller goals. I always tell my clients to have an ideal goal and then a monthly target when it comes to their weight loss.

3.) Partner up. Accountability is everything. Find a friend or a coworker that is striving toward something similar and hold each other accountable. It’s great to have someone checking in on you and your progress and also someone cheering you on. Studies show that, in weight loss, the results for long-term results are always higher in pairs.

Okay, Janet. There’s a little motivation to help you set the right goals for 2017 and tips to keep you on track.

Now, my gift to you is a head start on any fitness goals you might be setting. to set up a FREE consultation with me and together we will work on your 2017 wellness. I can’t offer my time for free forever though, so act now. Offer expires Sunday at 6pm Pacific.

Also, the Commit to be Fit Revolution starts soon. If you haven’t signed up, do it Our lineup is completely amazing and the value you will receive from this online event is priceless.
